I finished Crescendo! And I loved it as much as, if not more than, I did the first time!
Nora should have known her life was far from perfect. Despite starting a relationship with her guardian angel, Patch (who, title aside, can be described as anything but angelic), and surviving an attempt on her life, things are not looking up. Patch is starting to pull away and Nora can’t figure out if it’s for her best interest or if his interest has shifted to her arch-enemy, Marcie Millar. Not to mention that Nora is haunted by images of her father and she becomes obsessed with finding out what really happened to him that night he left for Portland and never came home.
The further Nora delves into the mystery of her father’s death, the more she comes to question if her Nephilim bloodline has something to do with it as well as why she seems to be in danger more than the average girl. Since Patch isn’t answering her questions and seems to be standing in her way, she has to start finding the answers on her own. Relying too heavily on the fact that she has a guardian angel puts Nora at risk again and again. But can she really count on Patch or is he hiding secrets darker than she can even imagine?
Nora and Patch grew so much in this book, despite the issues that they have. And they have MAJOR issues. Communication and trust in a relationship was put into a whole new category with the fights about Nephilim and fallen angels and whatnot. I’d better not have any conversations like those with a boyfriend!
But seriously, new characters are introduced and left behind, old characters keep twisting their personalities it seems just to keep you on your toes. I love the dreams, how two characters can communicate through them, and the one thing about the series that will never fail to amaze me is the power of fallen angels’ scars. The memories, the vividness that paints a picture so well I don’t need this book to be on film is so captivating.
Also, the intrigue? Shoots up about thirty thousand notches. You will be shocked, amazed, sad, sympathetic, angry, and then all of these at once! And the ending? NEVER have I EVER read a better cliff-hanger! I cannot wait to get my hands on Silence. I’ve read a sneak peek of the first chapter, and I LOVE IT ALREADY!! I soooo need to know what happens to Nora!
