I’m Gwen Frost, a second-year warrior-in-training at Mythos Academy, and I have no idea how I’m going to survive the rest of the semester. One day, I’m getting schooled in swordplay by the guy who broke my heart—the drop-dead gorgeous Logan who slays me every time. Then, an invisible archer in the Library of Antiquities decides to use me for target practice. And now, I find out that someone at the academy is really a Reaper bad guy who wants me dead. I’m afraid if I don’t learn how to live by the sword—with Logan’s help—I just might die by the sword…
Even though this book didn’t have as much of a plot to it as the first book (and the cover is definitely no compteition to the first), it was still completely enthralling. It was a lot of Gwen maturing and learning how to be a Champion and sort out some personal issues, rather than a lot of Loki stuff. However, that’s not to say that there wasn’t a freaking TON of suspense, intrigue, and mystery involved. With murder attempts all over the place, and secrets galore, this book kept me on my toes the entire time, and then everything was revealed at the end with shocking twists and revelations. I couldn’t put it down, and finished it in a day. This is definitely a a book where you squeal at the end because you know there’s more coming—and you can’t wait!
The romantic conflicts were painful to read about, and through Gwen, and her pyschometry, a lot of pain was revealed. The shocking, dark and twisted way differences between the normal world and the Mythos world were shown definitely crazy, and led to all sorts of different theories, both my myself and Gwen, and nothing was 100% until the end. I got so caught up in the action and intrigue that there were parts I literally stopped breathing for a few seconds, I wanted to scream in frustration to Gwen to FIGURE IT OUT ALREADY, because I had! Plus, the ending was just soooo great, and there was a sneak peek into the first chapter of Dark Frost! I simply fell more in love with every single character (well, the good guys, at least) and CANNOT wait for Dark Frost to come out in May!!!!! So get cracking! There’s another book to put on your ever-growing TBR list, and this should be number one!
**Note: this book may get dark and violent at times, but never so much that a 13-year-old couldn’t read it.
