Spell Bound

Title: Spell Bound (Book 3 in Hex Hall)
Author: Rachel Hawkins
Publisher: Disney-Hyperion
Release Date: March 12, 2012

Just as Sophie Mercer has come to accept her extraordinary magical powers as a demon, the Prodigium Council strips them away. Now Sophie is defenseless, alone, and at the mercy of her sworn enemies—the Brannicks, a family of warrior women who hunt down the Prodigium. Or at least that’s what Sophie thinks, until she makes a surprising discovery. The Brannicks know an epic war is coming, and they believe Sophie is the only one powerful enough to stop the world from ending. But without her magic, Sophie isn’t as confident.
Sophie’s bound for one hell of a ride—can she get her powers back before it’s too late?

Aaagh! I cannot believe how good this series is!! Not only are the books quick and easy reads, but they are most definitely emotional roller coasters: with the gallows humor combined with deadly situations, my heart was pounding in time with Sophie’s while simultaneously holding back laughs. Mix in a few tear-jerking scenes (particularly the last two chapters) and I was mess while reading this book.

The characters are back, better than ever, and from my emotional response, I hope you can infer that the plot and writing was of the same excellent quality! And, as much as I love this series, I love how it ended. That’s not to say, though, that I won’t be reading the next book about Izzy – if anything, I’m even more excited to read it. I mean, how often does one of your favorite authors extend one of your favorite series? Because that’s definitely what this book and Rachel Hawkins have become – and as much as I loved my high school English teachers, I kinda wish I had her as one, too!

My highest praise and recommendations still remain for anyone looking for an amazing series to start!

~Yours Truly

*Note: I do not recommend this book to anyone under the age of 13 due to some language and sexual reference.
